After the flag ceremony, the kids at Mate Elementary School have to pass through the many sections of the school’s Park for Learning to learn as much as they could from the fun materials strategically spaced out inside the outdoor facility.

First, the kids have to go through the alphabet steps before heading to other sections of the park. Inside the facility, they can learn how to read through the letters and syllabication.

There are also sections for consonant blends, learning how to read phrases, creating short paragraphs, and reading short stories, with understanding.

Jeffrey Dimailig, the School Head of Mate Elementary School, shared that the park has encouraged the children to learn more. Not only do they pass through the park as the school’s daily routine after the flag ceremony, they can also go there anytime.

This is the reason why the Park for Learning often has a lot of students during recess time, lunch time, and before or after the classes start. Through the park, the kids can have fun while they are learning; the double purpose appeals to the young minds.

But aside from the students being introduced to these many concepts, they are also guided into the learning process by the teachers and other students who already know how to read.

For example, Grade 6 pupil Jaris Merely Salen is one of the volunteer teachers in the park. Aside from enjoying the facilities on her own, Jaris also helps the younger kids learn what they could from the park, especially when it comes to reading.
