Teachers Can Now Use Brigada Eskwela Certificate in Renewing PRC License

Since the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) lowered the CPD requirements to just 15 units which took effect on March 1, 2019, professionals around the country had an easier time renewing their licenses. However, if you’re a professional who’s not practicing your chosen profession, you’ll still need to attend trainings free or paid just to acquire the 15 required units.

Teachers Can Now Use Brigada Eskwela Certificate in Renewing PRC License

Here comes the good news for teachers. You can now use several training certificates that will be credited and considered as CPD compliance. If you don’t have any certificate or trainings attended, you can use your Brigada Eskwela Certificate of Participation in renewing your PRC license. This has been proven after Sir Lee Mojica, a teacher from Cavite, was able to renew his license by just presenting his Brigada Eskwela Certificate.

While it has been proven to work, we at Buhay Teacher do not guarantee that all teachers who will use their Brigada Eskwela certificates for CPD compliance will have it appreciated at the PRC office where they will renew their licenses.

A couple of factors may come into play. First, the PRC officer who will accommodate you may or may not honor your BE certificate as CPD compliant. In such case, you may appeal courteously and tell them that you know a certain teacher who was able to renew their license using the Brigada Eskwela certificate. Secondly, the authenticity of your certificate may also be put into question so make sure that you will bring the original copy of your certificate with the complete signatures from the respective signatories in your school.

In case that you were not able to secure a Brigada Eskwela certificate, you can still use the following for CPD compliance:

  • In-house trainings/In-service training for teachers (INSETs)
  • Certificate of participation for division, regional, and national trainings that are credited as CPD units
  • Certificate of speakership for different trainings that are credited as CPD units
  • Capacity-building activities of government agencies and/or private organizations, including local government units (LGUs) and private employers

Please also note that newly licensed professionals are not covered by the CPD requirement for their first renewal. Also, professionals who do not have CPD compliant trainings can still renew their licenses until December 2020. The only catch will be for them to comply for 60 units CPD requirements on their next license renewal.
