The class immediately took notice and told him about the kid’s arrival. The boy, named Manuel, feeling shy that he was very late, tried to hide in a corner but the teacher welcomed him in. It was obvious that the boy was tired from walking far to reach the school but appears determined to learn.

As Sir Ryan went back to discussing a lesson in English, he noticed that Manuel was busy with something in his bag. He called the kid, seeking his attention so that he would listen in class, but was surprised when the child brought out a bunch of bananas from his bag.

Many commented that kids in the barrios, particularly in the mountain areas, are truly sweet and generous. Others pointed out that the kid did not have money to buy slippers but still had a big heart for his teacher, giving him bananas that are probably fruits from their own yard.
