15-Year-Old Boy Opens Street Library So Kids in Neighborhood Could Read Books

These days, you are likely to find more kids using gadgets like cellphones and tablets than kids playing outdoors or reading a book. But many parents still wish their kids would love books and enjoy reading as a hobby.

In Davao City, a 15-year-old boy went viral for opening a street library so the kids in his neighborhood could read books. “Lib of Positivity” was built by Lorenzo “Enzo” Puentespina, with the teenager taking discarded fruit trays which he used to build the shelves.

After setting up the shelves and putting a roof over the street library, the young lad put plenty of books inside – and everyone is welcome to read them, 24/7! There are also chairs around the library for bookworms to relax while they read the books.

Various topics are covered by Enzo’s street library, including Christian living, Math, Science, English, Physical education, Science, and Literature.

Though he opened the library with the intention of welcoming young minds and helping them learn, he was rather surprised when the place quickly became a hangout for many kids who enjoyed reading there.

I’m really happy of waking up, going outside, and seeing all these kids reading my books. I see the smile on their faces (and) it really makes my day,” Enzo said.

He also wants to spread this joy by encouraging other people to also start a mini library.

It would be amazing if you could start your own little libraries in your area. Why not spread the joy of reading there too?” he wrote.

But just in case you don’t have a space to open a mini library for kids and bookworms in your area, you can always send books to help Enzo fill up his Lib of Positivity in Davao.

Donations can be dropped off at Bolcan St. Agdao, Davao City or shipped to Lorenzo Puentespina at the same address.

Another option is to drop off or send to Puentespina Orchids, Cedar Hills Garden Center, 57 Mother Ignacia St., Barangay Paligsahan, Quezon City.
