The Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG) happily announced that eight Filipino students recently brought pride to the country after winning eleven awards and one trophy in the world Math contest held in Hong Kong.
A team comprised of eight Grade 5 students came from different schools in the Philippines. They represented the country at the 22nd Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC) held in Hong Kong from July 15 to 19, 2019.
“We congratulate our Filipino contestants for winning awards in the contest. We are very proud of their feat,” praised MTG president Isidro Aguilar.
Philippine Team A comprised of Ian Gabriel Hong of Pace Academy, Michael Gerard Tongson of Stonyhurst Southville International School-Malarayat, Jerome Austin Te of Jubilee Christian Academy, and Kody Briones of Emmanuel Christian School won silver medals and a trophy after finishing strongly as first runner up.
Members of the team also won individual medals.

Both Te and Tongson won silver medals in the individual contest.
Meanwhile, Briones, Sean Jang of Elizabeth Seton School-South, Sophie Jill Co of Pace Academy, and Iris Lexi Ababon of Colegio San Agustin-Makati won bronze medals in their individual categories.
The team certainly made not just their coaches and their schools proud, but also the entire country as they went home with several medals and a trophy. While they did not manage to win a gold, being part of the contest was already a great honor – and they actually went home with a good number of medals, anyway!
Now on its 22nd year, the Primary Mathematics World Contest welcomes students from all over the world, including the Philippines.
This year, a total of 144 students from across the world joined in the contest. Representatives came from Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, US, Australia, South Korea, China, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, and Macau.
