Understanding his family’s poverty but aiming to help improve their life, Jay-r Cañete Pangan did his best to find a job so he could support himself in school. He would become part of the Chowking crew in Chowking Gaisano Mall Butuan in Butuan, Agusan del Norte.
While working as service crew at the fast food outlet, he studied Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA), major in Marketing Management at Father Saturnino Urios University. He also found other sideline income to help support himself through college even if he did not receive support from his parents because they were too poor to send him anything.
Thanks to his hard work and sacrifice, Pangan was able to graduate.

On his graduation day, his father felt bad that they did not have money to celebrate his achievement, but this inspiring young man simply hugged his dad and told him it didn’t matter. What’s important is that he was able to graduate.
Pangan assured his dad that he has long accepted that they don’t have money and that he feels content that he was able to achieve something. But he added that he never feels bad about his family being poor – and he never felt ashamed of their situation in life!
“Never kung ikinahihiya kung anong meron kami sa buhay (buhay mahirap) 😊. Basta’t alam ko mahal na mahal ko po yung pamilya ko at mahalaga sila sa akin. At ang simpling buhay na meron ako, yun ay sapat na sa akin 😊,” he shared in his Facebook post.
